Powerful Prayer For My Husband

A few months back I told you all to stop praying for God to send you a husband.  Instead, I told you to start praying a little differently including first and foremost praying for yourselves so that you can become the person God needs you to be in order to receive your husband. And secondly, I told you to pray FOR your future husband as the Lord leads you. I say as He leads you because you don’t want this to turn into idolization or coveting the thought of having a husband. You will know once you are ready and spiritually mature enough to walk into a season of praying for your future spouse. Until then, do not do it prematurely and do not awaken love before its time. (Song of Solomon 8:4) If you’re already married, these are definitely great things to pray over your current husband as well.
Here goes according to Rita Brooks:
1. Pray that God gives him a spirit of wisdom and revelation
I can’t even take credit for this one. This is all the Apostle Paul (through inspiration of the Holy Spirit of course). This is actually known as the Ephesians prayer because in Ephesians 1 we see Paul praying this for the church at Ephesus. I try to pray this over myself and others as often as I remember and I used to pray it over my husband periodically  (of course not knowing who he was). And not to toot my own man’s horn or anything but *toot toot*.  He is one of the wisest people I know. And not with that worldly wisdom, but he is clearly tapping into some of the wisdom of God and I’ve got to believe it’s because his girl was praying for him before I even knew it was him. *pops my invisible collar*
The entire prayer can be found in Ephesians 1:17-23 and it is basically a prayer for spiritual wisdom and revelation and will serve as a foundation for a person’s spiritual life. When I prayed for my future husband I would just replace the words “you” with “him” or “his” (except for the first line I would say the man you are preparing for me). Here is an example: “Father God I pray that you would grant the man that you are preparing to be my husband the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of you, the eyes of his understanding being enlightened that he may know what is the hope of your calling…..”Get it? It’s really simple but it is so powerful, and I know that you will see the fruit of that prayer some day.

2. Pray that God is drawing Him into a closer relationship with Himself
You want a man who is first and foremost in love with God before he loves anyone else. His love for God will translate and carry over into his love for you and others. He will not want to hurt you because he will not want to hurt God. He will honor you because he honors God. Trust me a man who loves God first, loves best. You want the man who is going to be the leader of your family, the king and priest of the home and so much more to be able to hear the voice of God so that he can lead effectively and so that you feel comfortable following and submitting to him. All of these things affect you, but most of all you should love him so deeply that you care about his soul and his spirit most.
3. Pray that He is a man of the Word
One of the things that husbands are called to do is wash their wife with the water of the Word of God (Ephesians 5:25-26). Your husband can’t do any washing if he doesn’t know any Word. The Word of God is living, active, and powerful (Hebrews 4:12). It is imperative that the man of the house be well acquainted with it. It will also profit him nothing if he doesn’t believe it or act on it. So also pray that he is a doer of the word and not just a hearer. (James 1:22)

4. Declare that he is a man of his word
Not only do you want him to be a man of THEE Word, but you also want him to be a man of his word. I don’t know about you, but it has always been important for whoever my husband would be to do his best to keep his word. No one wants an unreliable, irresponsible flaky person to be their partner for life. You also want him to be a man of integrity and good character. You don’t want him to act one way in front of people, but when he shuts the door he’s a completely different human being. So pray for those things so that God may work on his heart if needed.
5. Declare  that he is a leader
Once you marry someone they become the leader of the marriage and your home by default so you want to make sure that he is a darn good one. Pray that he is a leader and not a follower in general and that God is grooming him to be the best leader possible. Pray for God’s grace to come upon him in that area.
6. Pray that he will be a great father (if you desire children)
If you desire children then make sure you are praying for your husband to be a great father even now. Becoming a father takes another type of grace and aptitude so praying that he is developing and cultivating those qualities right now will put him ahead of the curve when that time comes.
7. Pray for his peace
Everyone can use the peace of God in their life. Pray that wherever your future husband is and whatever his circumstances are that the peace of God rules in his heart (Colossians 3:15), in his mind, and in his situation.
8. Declare everything he touches prospers
I think we can all agree that men have egos. Part of their ego is knowing that they are successful and that they have the ability to provide. I know plenty of men who will not even think of the prospect of taking any woman serious or consider himself ready for marriage until he has financial security. So pray for the success and prosperity of your future husband making sure he is covered in every area.
9. Pray that he has godly friends and accountability
A person’s circle is crucial to their growth, development and success. The people who are around your future mate could be either hindering or helping those areas. For this reason, pray that he has godly friends, wise counsel and accountability. Pray that any and all hindrances in the form of people are removed from his life and that God brings him divine connections.
10. Pray for his purpose
We all know that the purpose of the wife is to be a helpmeet to her husband. Therefore, if your future husband does not yet know his purpose, there is no need for you right now. You do not give him his purpose. God does that. You help him with it. You are called to push him, help cultivate him and help bring his vision to pass with all of the qualities, gifts and graces that God has placed on the inside of you. So pray that if he does not already know his purpose that God reveals it to him. Pray that he has the courage, confidence and boldness to walk in his purpose and not run away from it.
