TURN THE COUNSEL OF AHITOPHEL TO FOOLISHNESS
2 Samuel 15
30 So David went up by the Ascent of the Mount of Olives, and wept as he went up; and he had his head covered and went barefoot. And all the people who were with him covered their heads and went up, weeping as they went up. Then someone told David, saying, “Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom.” And David said, “O Lord, I pray, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness!”
Ahithophel the Gilonite, was David’s counselor, from his city—from Giloh. But Ahithophel betrayed David.
The prayer of David is the point of note here; a desperate prayer by a man who was suddenly surrounded by betrayal. His very own son Absalom, his wise, godly and well trusted counselor, Ahithophel who, haboured secret bitterness against David, suddenly turned against him by joining forces with a very rebellious son that had a large public support in his mission of destruction and quest to usurp power.
He brought public disgrace (2 Samuel 16) unto David by giving Absalom unholy counsel!
David realized he had noone but the most High God to turn to. This is where the KEY OF DAVID is. David prays heart wrenching prayers. Prayers that ‘touch the heart of God’. He prayed a prayer of repentance in Psalm 51, he was truly sorry for the wrong he had done.
The almighty deals with man from the heart, He doesn’t rate us as fellow men do, therefore the prayer of David; ““O Lord, I pray, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness!”” is the kind of prayer that Christians should learn to pray especially when in dire need of urgent solution.
This type of prayer speaks volumes, it screams to the highest heavens, ‘S-O-S!’
A decree, a prayer of speaking out what we want as sudden judgment on wicked unrelenting enemies
Psalm 143:12
And of thy mercy cut off mine enemies, and destroy all them that afflict my soul: for I am thy servant.
It is biblical to call upon God in our times of trouble and he will answer indeed!
Of course we are enjoined to, PRAY WITHOUT CEASING.
